The Duffin Creek WPCP is located in Pickering on the northern shore of Lake Ontario. This design-build contract involved the shoring and excavation of the Influent Pumping Station Subgrade for the Stage 3 Liquid Process Expansion Project.

This project consisted of the design and installation of the following: a contiguous concrete pile shoring system; a natural gas venting system and a groundwater dewatering system, both for the purpose of performing excavation work. The vertical shoring walls were critical for the project’s completion as they protected the exposed rock and prevented dewatering exceeding 50 m3/day.

Additional work included site clearance and grading; excavation and off-site disposal of all excavated soil, overburden, and rock. The excavation area was approximately 980 m2 and was 30 m in diameter and 27.6 m deep. The total excavation was 24,000 m3 in soil and 8,000 m3 in rock.

This project was part of the ongoing expansion of the existing plant where Kenaidan completed the Dewatering and Incineration facilities.
