Barrie Water Pollution Control Centre - Expansion
Client:  City of Barrie
Prime Consultant:  CH2M Hill Canada Limited
Value:  $69.8 million

The site of the existing Barrie WPCC is located in the City of Barrie near the southwestern shore of Kempenfelt Bay of Lake Simcoe.

Due to the projected population growth, the original WPCC capacity of 57 MLD needed to be increased to a capacity of 76 MLD.  Work was carried out in three different areas in the plant: Sludge Processing, Secondary Treatment, and Tertiary Treatment.  A total of 16 process units were added, including one secondary clarifier, two flash and flocculation tanks, and one primary digester tank. The work also included the replacement and addition of mechanical and electrical processes within the plant, as well as extensive dewatering, excavation, and piling works; close to 2000 piles were driven in a 5-month period. Kenaidan self-performed 27,000m² of formwork and 10,800m³ of concrete.
